About the event

This micro-course explores current approaches to language arts instruction for grades K–5 including content knowledge, curriculum design, instructional strategies, skills development, activities, and materials. Emphasis is on holistic, integrated language arts instruction, incorporating oral and written language skill areas.

Upon successful completion, educators will be able to:

  • Define language arts and explain how language arts are learned and taught

  • Summarize what is meant by a holistic approach to teaching language arts

  • Determine how to assess and differentiate language arts instruction

  • Determine how to integrate teaching with literature and informational texts
