This micro-course examines techniques that support family and community engagement and effective methods of communication with parents from diverse backgrounds to promote achievement and the healthy development of children. 

Upon successful completion, educators will be able to:

• Describe the characteristics of contemporary life that influence the nature of modern PK-8 families
• Identify techniques for developing communication and interaction with families
• Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of family and community engagement in the PK-8 classroom
• Summarize strategies educators can use to welcome families of culturally diverse backgrounds and with unique situations
• Compare and contrast successful parental involvement programs
